What can feds do to advocate for themselves during the performance management process?
1. regularly record your accomplishments all year long
2. do your self-assessment at the mid year point and at the end of the year
3. record issues or events not quite appropriate for your appraisal in memos for the record
4. schedule a face-to-face feedback session, if possible
5. don't let your supervisor hijack the time by talking about him or herself the whole time
6. come to the conversation with notes
7. ask for specific, actionable feedback
8. request suggestions on training, conferences or on the job opportunities to improve in the areas you and your supervisor identify as needing improvement
