The non-profit Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility helps protect public employees who protect our environment, natural resources and public health.
I interviewed attorney Paula Dinerstein, PEER’s Senior Counsel for 12 years, representing public employees who face interference with their work to protect the environment.
Just a small sample of her enormous range of work, which has tapped into the diverse knowledge of PEER clients who are the inside experts on the work of their agencies, has established important precedents to help whistleblowers hold agencies accountable, forced the Malibu School District to clean up toxic PCBs affecting students and teachers in the classroom, gotten the EPA to adopt lead-safe practices in renovation of older homes and schools, and stopped the US Navy from doing underwater tests that were destroying the marine environment.
She explains the mechanics of blowing the whistle and the boards and bodies you face to make your case if you're retaliated against.
